MTV.com: The condolences keep pouring in for Jennifer Hudson, who lost not one, but three family members over the weekend in a triple-homicide: her mother, brother and nephew, who was found dead late Monday.
“It’s insane,” Ashanti told MTV News on Monday night. “I can’t even express it, the pain that she must be going through. I can’t imagine going through that. I just pray that she’s strong and she takes the time to heal herself. My prayers go out to her and her family. God bless.”
Since everyone grieves in their own way, Nelly told MTV News there’s no real right or wrong thing to say to someone when you’re trying to console them — just saying something, period, is what matters. “It’s a rough thing to talk about,” he said. “It’s like, what do you say? You really don’t know what to say to a person when you talk about death or losing a loved one.”
He wouldn’t want people fussing over him, he said, but that’s because “I’m a funny dude when it comes to things like that. I’m pretty much a loner, and I deal with my own problems and things personally.” All anyone can do, he said, is “send your blessings and positive energy.”
“Hopefully, that will help her stay strong,” he added. “Hopefully, there will come a day where she can move on from it. But I don’t think she’ll ever forget about it.”
Nelly knows — he lost his sister Jackie to leukemia three years ago. “It’s hard,” he said. “I still think about her every day. So I don’t think there will ever come a day where she doesn’t think about it, but that’s good too. It helps keep the memory alive.”
Ashanti will be headlining another “up close and personal” live concert in Japan. This one will take place on October 31st at the Banyan Tree Club in Kadena AB, Okinawa.
Ashanti stopped by 106 and Park today to discuss her one night role in the benefit show from Wicked titled “The Yellow Brick Road not Taken”. I was able to watch it and recorded parts of the show with my digital camera. Unfortunately for the East Coast, you guys just missed her but the West Coast can still catch her at 6PM via BET. I’ll be on the look-out for reruns and try to get a good quality version of the show, if not - I’ll upload what I recorded on my digital camera.
Ashanti will also appear on Good Day New York via FOX 5 tomorrow, Thursday, October 23rd.
Ashanti will be headlining SPB’s fall concert for Quinnipiac College with The Audition as the opening act on November 16, 2008. No further information was provided but from the looks of it, it seems as if it will be a student-only type of show. Hopefully we’ll get photos and videos anyway. - Source.
Ashanti is having an “up close and personal” concert in Japan on October 29th, 2008 at Ebisu Liquid Room and a second show on November 2nd, 2008 at Yokohama Bay Hall. If you are in Japan and wish to attend, you can find more information here.
Broadway.com: R&B singer Ashanti, The View’s Joy Behar, comedian Mario Cantone, Ugly Betty’s Mark Indelicato, and Gossip Girl’s Matthew Settle will take part in The Yellow Brick Road Not Taken, a one-night-only benefit performance celebrating the fifth anniversary of Wicked. Directed by Matt Lenz with musical direction by Ben Cohn, the event will take place on October 27 at the Gershwin Theatre. Proceeds will be donated to Bette Midler’s New York Restoration Project.
Also scheduled are former Wicked cast members, including Shoshana Bean and Stephanie J. Block, both of whom played Elphaba, Jennifer Laura Thompson who played the role of Glinda, Michelle Federer, who originated the role of Nessarose, and Kerry Ellis and Kendra Kassebaum, the show’s two current stars. More casting is still to be announced.
The Yellow Brick Road Not Taken will also feature an appearance from composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz and book writer Winnie Holzman, who will share scenes and songs from early drafts of the musical, including never-before-seen material, as well as songs cut during the show’s development and pre-Broadway engagement.
Bette Midler founded the nonprofit New York Restoration Project (NYRP) in 1995 with the belief that clean and green neighborhoods are fundamental to the quality of life and that every community in New York City deserves an oasis of natural beauty. Modeled on the Central Park Conservancy and other successful public-private partnerships, NYRP partners with individuals, community-based groups, and public agencies to reclaim, restore, and develop under-resourced parks, community gardens, and open space in New York City, primarily in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods.
