Ashanti Has Her Eye On Drake: ‘I’m A Big Fan!’
He’s one of the few rappers she hasn’t worked with… yet!
Though Ashanti, 29, claimed she had no Grammy predictions when we caught up with her at OK! magazine’s 3rd Annual Midnight Grammy Brunch on Jan. 30, she did mention one artist she loves: actor-turned-rapper Drake! “I think Drake has been doing an amazing job,” she told HollywoodLife.com exclusively. “I’m a big fan.” She even said it would be “kind of cool” to collaborate with the former Degrassi: The Next Generation star. We smell a hit!
Ashanti (pictured above with Natalie Cole) also dished to us about her career plans for 2010. Not only is her new album coming out this year, which includes a song with Dr. Dre, but she also signed a production deal with Revelry Productions to executive produce her own TV show! “That’s all I can say for now,” she told us, “but I’m really excited.” - SOURCE
As always, Footwear News’ Achievement Awards, held on Dec. 2 at the Four Seasons Restaurant in New York, proved to be fertile ground for gabbing and gossip. Grammy Award-winning singer Ashanti, who introduced Designer of the Year Giuseppe Zanotti, took some time out from the evening to dish about her love for the shoe star. “I’ve been infatuated with Giuseppe since my first album. I’m so proud of him,” said the singer, who was wearing a dress by Los Angeles line Carmelita. The songstress, who is working on a new album, also recently inked a production deal and is busy at work producing a TV series. “I’m behind the scenes on this one. I might pop up [on the show] here and there, like Diddy or Trump, but I’m mostly behind the scenes,” she joked.
Ashanti attended the Footwear News Awards at The Four Seasons on December 1, 2009. Ashanti presented Giuseppe Zanotti his award for “Designer of the Year”. Ashanti says she is “infatuated” with his style. Adding that she puts him on whenever she wants to remind her boyfriend (Nelly?) that she’s hot.
Unfortunately, no professional photos have surfaced yet. This was a private and invite-only event, so that might be the reason. You can’t see her shoes, but Giuseppe gave her white ankle boots with gold chains all over which she wore at the event.

Nicknamed the “Princess of Hip Hop,” Ashanti performed for the very first time on the stage at the Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club, where her mother, Tina Douglas, taught dance. She began writing songs in high school. Her 2002 debut album, Ashanti, landed at the #1 spot on both the Billboard Top 200 and R&B album charts and received a Grammy for best contemporary R&B album. She has released three hit studio albums since. In 2008, she partnered with jeweler Cartier on a “Love” bracelet benefiting Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Recently she joined the organization’s BE GREAT campaign to inspire young people to pursue their dreams.
